I agree it's certainly a consideration. Opposite Tops Sumpermarket on Pattaya Klang they charge 35 baht for a Singha, other beers for for 45-50 baht. Several bars on Soi 7 and Soi Diana 45-50 baht and then all the happy hour specials in Walking Street with drink prices around 50-65 baht.

I guess the constructive thing would be to let the bar owners know that their drink prices repel rather than attract customers.

If you don't know already, I saw a notice on the door of The Camel. They will be closed on 7th/8th of July due to Buddhist Lent. This might apply to all the bars in Ban Chang, and elsewhere for that matter.

bryan
do you think the bars in banchang are charity bars?
i have a friend who owns a bar in banchang for the past 4 years.the beer price has always been the same.beer has gone up many times in the 4yrs overheads of electricity, water, salarys, investment, maintenace, police etc need to be found so that you can sit in the nice aircon environments with entertainment.

I dont know how the bars can sell beer for 40 and 50 baht in pattaya, I know that most are open bars with no aircon and small overheads but even so 5- 10 baht per bottle probably doesnt cover the cost to chill it.

i appreciate being able to go into these establishments and enjoy it, maybe time some gusy went back to there home country if the came to thailand to bitch about beer prices.go back home pay high beer prices with no entertainment.

I rarely complain about drink prices, I hang out in the top gogos the most.

I sometimes think about popping to ban chang for a few but the price makes me think, lets hit the karaoke instead.

Karaoke bars will be paying the police and they have the same rent/bills. (apart from air con)

I was told the girls don't get salaries, that's one less expense than Pattaya bars

The bars have to innovate, here is some stuff they can do.

Get together and see if they can work something out with the police. There are plenty of options here.

Try and get drinks cheaper, I don't know where they get the drink from, but if some of them clubbed together they can get it cheaper - some owners could even get together and buy a wholesalers

Stop price fixing, its illegal in most countries and customers feel cheated

I am aware there was an 18% tax rise.

Offer alternatives cheaper... why is cheap thai beer the same price as other beers

Offer other services, zillions of ideas here

dual pricing for air con st rooms

increase the room charges opposed to beer charges

Internet marketing, very few even have websites

There are plenty of ways to increase revenue and also to try and cut back costs, they are not charity's, but at the same time, i think its survival they need to be thinking about

Where is this market? My new resolution is to drink there first, then drink as little as possible when I go "shopping" at the bars.

the local expats tend to hang out in Pick & Pay or at the Eastern Star Golf Clubhouse before going to the Strip

I doubt you will find them if you don't know your way around B'Chang

all the bars now charge 80b/bottle for beer since the tax went up not so long ago
