Hi
I am thinking of relocating from the North. Someone recommended Ban Chang... is it nice? Is there more to this place than girlie bars? I am looking for somewhere not too touristy, where the Thais are nice (not like in Patters), fairly safe and small enough to be able to make friends easily - (expats and Thais).

Ive lived in a small town with a very (too) small expat community and got really fed up with all the gossip and bullsh!t know it all farangs. So I am looking for something "not too big, not too small".

I would like to go for a 2 week holiday to check the place out, where is a cheapish place to stay around 500b a night? Also what about renting or buying condos down there, are there any reasonable new developments. Can I buy a studio there for around 500k?

can someone give me an idea of the area, I can see its near to the sea is the beach nice, also is it a typical dirty Thai town or does it have some character, something special... what is the appeal of Ban Chang? Is it possible there to live a fairly quiet life, have friendly Thai neighbors and live fairly cheaply whilst still having some entertainment when you want it? Are the farang restaurants pricey? Is there a Tescos or decent supermarket?

Does CAT CDMA (wireless Internet) work there?

I will be there in a couple of weeks, anyone fancy going out for a beer with a newbie?

Thanks!!!

beach is just so-so, but obviously cleaner than Pattaya
you should be able to get an ADSL internet service, but I'm not so sure about CDMA

the Falahng restaurants charge about 200b for a meal
don't expect to make a lot of friends

they will all want to be your friend at first, but that is only so they can gather information about you so they can gossip about you to everyone else.

my advice, if you move there, is to stay away from the expats for the majority of the time & you'll be fine.
They are a bunch of manipulative gossiping cunts & seem quite miserable, at least the ones who hang out in the bars are.

cheapest decent hotel in town is the Chang Inn (420b/night), behind the bar scene, what they call The Strip.
Any Thai won't know what The Strip is, so just ask for Chang Inn (Chahng). It doesn't mean Elephant, but it's a similar sound.

I'm probably one of the "manipulative gossiping cunts" that you're talking shit about. It's okay because I have plenty other "manipulative gossiping cunts" as long-term friends here in Banchang, that have proved themselves to be great friends and quality people generally. :P

Here's a clue, alcohol is a depressant. People who spend a lot of time in bars drinking it aren't usually the most personable people in the world after a few years sat on a bar stool. You will meet them everywhere in the world, and its hardly a Banchang phenomenon is it?

Dunno about the "miserable" part. Might just be you having a bad day?

I have spent a bit of time around Ban Chang over the years . It is not an attractive town - a highway (Suk Rd) runs thru the middle but there are some nice areas surrounding it . But the nice thing is Pattaya is only a short distance so u can hop into Pattaya and then hop out when u have had your fill of it .

Please stay on topic. This thread is about newbie tips for Ban Chang in Thailand, nicht Deutschland. Verstehen Sie?

^^Um, not really mate. I enjoy the occasional night out in BC, but I ain't hogging any bar stool on a regular basis. You sound a bit paranoid, tbh.
