In the middle of town next to 7-11 there's a bar/restaurant called Christies. Good food and a good place to drink. Lots of Westerners go there to watch footie. Up the street from Christies there are many karoke places. There are a couple that are nice but most are little shacks. They sell expensive beer (100 baht for large Leo) and have a few girls who will drink with you and "keep you company".

If you follow the main road East there are a few places to drink. Bed Rock is a restaurant on the left side. They have a little bar and the owner is an Aussie who is good to talk to. There's a nice hotel on the left called Jawan (I think), and it has a really nice bar/restaurant in the lobby. Neither place has girls.

Continuing East over the bridge you'll find several restaurants along the beach. Past the restaurants there are two bars that can be fun. First is Mine Bar. It's a quiet place to drink. Next door is Ollie's. He has a great selection of music and often has parties with a dj.

When you reach Mine Bar and Ollie's you can turn left and there are a couple of karoke bars on that street, just look for the lights. The first one on the right has several girls and is a good place to just sit and relax with a beer. Further up the street past the TEFL school there's another karoke bar on the left.

The karoke places attract mostly Thai guys. I went alone to every karoke place and never had any problems, but best to be cautious and keep your wits about you.

An update: I went to Ban Phe last night. Mine Bar has apparently closed. Ollies is still open and had a good crowd at about 8PM. I had dinner at Christies, very good. Drove by several karoake places and many were open, even though I believe it was a holiday.

yeah, it's kind of funny how the Thai driven Karaoke will stay open during Buddhist holidays but the Falahng oriented establishments will ALL close

everything was closed here in Rayong City, anyplace that was geared mainly towards selling booze anyway

About Christies. I stayed there a few night some months ago and it was not one of my best experiences. Old rooms and not very clean. Also if you go to the bar in afternoon/night you should be prepared to face the old local drunk farangs that show up almost every night and not have any idea about how to behave amongst other people. Apart from that... well the prices are ok and the staff friendly.

And about the karaokebars close 7-11 and in the streets behind... I wouldn´t recommend anybody going there alone. These are mainly for the young Cambodians and Thais guys working fishingboats and you might very well end up in trubble. When I stayed at Christies, the Cambodians and Thais had a big fight outside 7-11, that resulted in 1 dead man... There has also been kidnappings and rapes around these kareokebars, performed mainly by Cambodians. I tell you this for your own safety...
